Worked great for a project

I used Dr. Memory for Windows on my school project to find some leaks. It was pretty easy to get going after watching a quick tutorial. Found the bug I was looking for fairly fast. It really helped me out when I was stuck.

Good value for a free tool

I needed a Memory Leak Detector and was looking for something that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Found Dr. Memory and figured, why not, it's free to download. Installation on Windows was straightforward, no hidden catches or anything. I used it with Visual Studio and it integrated surprisingly well for something I didn't pay for. It caught a few small leaks I missed. For zero cost, this felt like a fantastic deal and definitely worth the effort to set up.

Reliable tool, keeps getting better

I've been using Dr. Memory for a while now, mostly the Linux version for debugging. I remember when I first started using it years ago, it was already good, but they've added so many features. This latest time, I was using the Heap Overflow Detector and it pinpointed the issue quickly, just like before. Always consistent and a real lifesaver when you're deep in some tricky code. That's why I keep coming back to it, it just works.

Can I integrate Dr. Memory with Visual Studio? Or is it more of a command-line-only tool?

A Adam 2 weeks ago
You can! There are options for Visual Studio integration. Makes debugging a lot smoother.

S Sean H. 1 week ago
Yeah, there's definitely integration for VS. I use it all the time; it's pretty slick.

What's the deal with Dr. Fuzz? Is it like a separate tool or part of the main Dr. Memory package?

J Justin W. 2 weeks ago
Dr. Fuzz is part of the Dr. Memory ecosystem, but it's a separate tool focused on fuzz testing. You'd typically use them together, but they're distinct.

G Grace T. 1 week ago
It's a companion tool. Dr. Memory is for memory debugging, Dr. Fuzz helps with finding bugs by feeding weird inputs. They compliment each other.

Just confirming, is Dr. Memory completely free to use? Like, no hidden premium features or anything I have to pay for later?

M Mary Rivera 6 days ago
It's fully open source, my dude. Free as in beer, free as in speech. No catches.

A Alex C. 3 days ago
Nope, it's all open-source under LGPL. You get everything for free, no premium tiers. Just download and go.

Thinking of trying Dr. Memory for my C++ project. Is it generally considered better than Valgrind, or is it more of a 'depends on what you need' situation?

J Josh 2 weeks ago
Depends on your OS. For Windows, Dr. Memory is way better since Valgrind doesn't really have good Windows support. On Linux, it's more of a toss-up, both are good.

B Brian Anderson 1 week ago
I've found Dr. Memory to be a bit faster on some things, especially for quick checks. But Valgrind has some tools Dr. Memory doesn't, so it really depends on the specific problem.

Does anyone know if Dr. Memory plays nice with 64-bit applications on Windows? Or is it more for 32-bit stuff?

W William Robinson 3 weeks ago
It supports 64-bit apps for sure. I've used it on a few projects with no issues.
2
J Jason N. 2 weeks ago
Yep, it's designed to work with both. No special hoops to jump through for 64-bit.

Hey, wondering if Dr. Memory is still actively maintained? Don't want to get into something that's dead.

M Mary Roberts 1 week ago
Yeah, it's still being developed. You can check their GitHub, they push updates pretty regularly.

D Donna Mitchell 5 days ago
Totally, they had a pretty big update relatively recently. Definitely not dead.

How do you guys usually handle installing Dr. Memory on Windows? Is there an installer or just copy-paste files?

B Ben Robinson 1 week ago
They have a pretty straightforward installer package for Windows. Just download it from their site and run it.

J Jeff Johnson 1 week ago
It's not just a zip file. There's an actual installer program that sets everything up for you. Super easy.

I'm trying to optimize a really large application. Any tips for Dr. Memory performance? It can be a bit slow sometimes.

M Mary Allen 3 weeks ago
Using suppression files helps a ton to ignore known issues from libraries you can't control. Also, running it with fewer tools enabled can speed things up.
5
E Emily L. 3 weeks ago
Yeah, performance can be an issue with huge codebases. Try to narrow down what you're checking with specific flags, and suppress anything irrelevant. Also, check their docs for optimization tips.
